Apple Makes the Best Headphones for your new Pixel 2
I think the best wireless earbuds for Pixel 2 are made by Apple and i’ll tell you why. Most likely a lot of Android users don’t even consider the Apple Airpods when they are shopping for new wireless headphones. I would even wager most aren’t even sure if you can use Airpods on non Apple devices. This isn’t something that Apple has much interest advertising. I will tell you though, they work great.
First the bummers; there are only a couple features that you can’t take advantage of as an android user and I don’t think they are deal breakers. The most important of which is the initial pairing. Pairing your airpods with your android device is similar to pairing any other bluetooth device; you push a button, you tap on airpods on your phone, you wait a couple seconds, and they are paired; fairly painless. On an Apple device it works different and it’s pretty slick. Open the case near your iPhone, icon pops up, click on on it and you're paired. This is really convenient if you have multiple apple devices that you are switching between; but I’ll assume you don’t, and that’s why you are reading this. The other feature you don’t get to take advantage of is the ‘pull out pause’. This is when the music pauses when you pull one of the buds out. Yeah, kind of neat, you can however double tap on one of the ear buds to pause the music (a feature I use constantly).
Ok so what does work? Apple has advanced and layered on top of current bluetooth technology making sound quality, and bluetooth connectivity better. This is apparent after using these for any amount of time (even on an Android device). The airpods connect almost instantly when I open the case and pull one out. Connectivity is also much more consistent. I almost never experience the all too familiar bluetooth cutout. You can also use one earbud at time which is great for taking calls. Another great feature is you don’t have to turn them on and off. Taking them out and putting them in the case turns them on and off, so you are never left wondering if you turned them off or how longer you're supposed to push down some tiny button.
The highlight of the Apple Airpods, is really the design. Yes, I realise they look kinda goofy when you are wearing them. I urge you however, to just hold these in your hands. The case flicks open and shut with a slight magnetic assistance and a satisfying snap. Also the pods themselves are slightly magnetically pulled into the case keeping them seated. Apple is famous for high quality hardware and the Airpods are no exception.
The specs are better than most, Apple claims over 24hrs of listening time for the Airpods with included charging case; 5 hours of listening time on each charge and gaining 3 hours after only 15 min. Battery life hasn't even been something I think about, I just charge the case every other day or so and I have never run out of battery on either the airpods or the case.
If you are an Android user, don’t looking a little goofy wearing wearing them, and plan on using them mostly on one device. I would highly recommend giving them a chance. I was bummed that google dropped the auxiliary port on the new Pixel 2 but my new Airpods have definitely made the change much easier to accept.
